If I Had A Hammer

I'd hammer in the morning.
I'd hammer in the evening.
All over this la-and.

I wanted to hammer words
into metal for jewelry.

This is my first attempt.
It says Hop
You can't really tell.
It sort of looks
like it says Mop.
But trust me.
It does indeed
say Hop.

But, Kathy.  Why does it say Hop? you ask.
Because instead of purchasing this:
A steel bench block for hammering.
I jury rigged this:

And used this:

Which caused that band-aid
on my finger in picture #2 above.
Yup.
Nailed myself.
It hurt.
I'm not gonna lie.
That's why it says
Hop
instead of
Hope.
When everything heals
I HOPE to try again.
Now, on to more pleasant news.
My dear friend and neighbor
went to Tucson
to the Tucson Gem Show.
OH YEAH!!!
She brought me back these:

and these

And these

Oh, and these.
These are called Labradorite.
Not much to look at.

Kind of dull and grey.
But look at them when the light hits
just right.
See that blue flash?!
Cool, huh?!
I love it!

I am so amazed by these.
Something so plain and drab looking.
But has a gorgeous flash
of fleeting blue
if you're lucky enough to catch it
just right
in the sun.
Amazing.
It's almost mystical.
I looked up the stones mystical meaning:

Labradorite is a power stone, allowing you to see through illusions and determine the actual form of your dreams and goals. It is excellent for strengthening intuitions.

Apparently my stones are broken
because
my intuition was not strengthened at all.

I sure didn't see that hammer coming!

If you are in the market for a lovely necklace
with a charm that reads

"Hop"

I'll make it for you.
Really, really cheap.

You are so funny. My husband gave me a set of letters for Christmas and I haven't tried them yet. I'm sure I will nail my thumb too!

You didn't see the hammer coming, really Mom?

I think your intuition was screaming it at you once you jury rigged that thing. You just chose to ignore it... ;-)

Glad you didn't injure yourself *too* bad!

Sorry you hurt yourself - but your blog posts surely do crack me up!

Very cool - not the bandaid but the idea of doing your own hammered words and adding it to your jewelry.
Glad you got a snicker out of my Sister Sister post. Hee Hee - it was such a fun day!

Have you been at it again young lady? *tisk* :) Anyway, on another note, how the hell have I missed so many of your posts? There's been four or five since the last time I called in! I thought you'd fallen off the blogging radar but it looks like it was me just being as ditsy as ever... Better go catch up now!

Awwwww... I've so been there. Hope your finger feels better!!! And just think... Easter is just around the corner. Find some kind of bunny charm and some beadies, and you'd have a fun trinket. As a side note, when I saw the blog title and then the hammer lyrics, I had to share a poem my brother learned when he was in the second or third grade (which I recite to my daughter now, and she loves)... Ok, here goes...

I had a little pig.
I fed him in a trough.
He got so big and fat that his tail popped off.
So I got me a hammer.
And I got me a nail.
I gave that pig a wooden tail!

SO... just know there are more painful things that CAN be done with those dangerous hammers. :)

You cracked me up because that is EXACTLY the kind of thing I would do, try to jury-rig the tools. I'm sorry you hurt your finger but I'm happy I'm not alone in my "I don't need no stinking special tool"!

Live and learn!!! OMG! As I read the post, I got about 1/2 way through (to the part about the bandaid) and totally lost it! Maybe you can rescue the "hop" medallion and use it for Easter!!! What can I say . . . . I'm an optimist!!! Hugs, Terri

PS LOVE those laboradite beads!

Well, I came over to say hello and thank you for stopping by The Hut, and when I read the name of your blog I laughed. THEN I read this post and I said to myself, "Oh, that's where the name came from."

I see you do some bead work, have you ever seen the beads at BeadForLife.org? Check it out and be sure to watch the video of how they are made. Very cool!

I hop you have a fabulous Valentine's Day!

Making things brings such joy , doesn't it!
The labradorite is so charming.
I spent most of the winter knitting hats --not very good hats

but what fun!
